Women’s History Month Feature: COO Rachel and her Women’s History Month Hero!
Our Chief Operating Officer Rachel Crowley has been a prime example of growth with Tierra Encantada. For Women’s History Month, we learned about Rachel’s favorite moments with Tierra, and who has inspired her to become the woman she is today.
On the best part of her job…
Seeing the growth of our teams flourish! Seeing how one clear focus on competencies can cascade a ripple effect throughout the organization and lead to the professional growth of individuals on our team is what motivates me every day.
Over my time at Tierra Encantada, I have seen numerous staff members in our organization promoted within our centers and corporate office. The light that this shines on our female leaders who have led these young individuals on their professional growth journey is a testament to what impact women in the workforce are capable of.
On her journey with the company…
Looking back at the beginning of my Tierra Encantada journey, I chuckle to myself when I think about the days that I spent putting together furniture and listening to my Bill Bryson audiobook. I had no idea what was in store for my future at Tierra. Remembering this keeps me grounded. Though I may not have experience in the childcare industry, I was able to grow my knowledge with the support of brilliant women such as Kristen Denzer and Jordan Schreiner.
Now, I find myself in a place where I never imagined myself. From pouring into child care regulations and city codes to reviewing construction floor plans and leading a team of elevated department leaders, I realize that there is a lot to be proud of in what seems like a lifetime, has really only been 2 1/2 short years!
On her hero…
My hero is my mom – Denise Crowley.
Growing up my mom has always encouraged me to be in a variety of activities and life experiences that has allowed me space to develop my own vision of the world and how I fit into it. This above all else is why I admire and appreciate my mom and how she has supported me.
Whenever I was unsure of myself, she’d tell me “Can’t isn’t in your job description, Rachel. It’s who you are as a person.” This not only motivated and fueled my ambitions to thrive in moments of adversity, but also, it would make me pause and course correct myself to stay on my true path in life and what I wanted out of it. I admire her as she is the rock in my life. Her life decision, 33 years ago to adopt me and provide unconditional love to me still inspires me. She raised me with positivity, kindness, encouragement and of course lots of love!
