Hispanic Heritage Month!

Hispanic Heritage Month starts TODAY!

Hispanic Hertiage Month Coloring Page scaled

At Tierra Encantada, celebrating  Hispanic cultures is BIG. We wouldn’t be who we are, without the talent, creativity, and beauty that comes from Latin America! We love having dress up days for Hispanic countries and celebrating the independence of different areas through art and food. This Hispanic Heritage month,  take time to learn about what this month celebrates and learn more about Hispanic cultures!

Which countries does Hispanic Heritage Month celebrate?

Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Why does Hispanic Heritage Month start in the middle of September?

On September 15th, five Latin American countries  became independent from Spain. In the following days, more countries also became independent! That’s why the month starts in the middle of September, and it ends in the middle of October!

Where or how can I celebrate Hispanic culture authentically?

There are a lot of ways to honor Hispanic cultures authentically! Find a Latinx-owned business in your area (or online) to support. Try a type of Hispanic food new to you- have you ever had pupusas? What about raspados? There are hundreds of flavors for your family to try!

Are there any kid-specific ways to celebrate?

Our design team created a coloring page for our Tierra Encantada families- that celebrates the kids and countries that make up our community! Print off the page below. You can color the different flags before dinner, and then enjoy a delicious authentic meal!

In Early October, each center will have a map up in the lobby, noting the places their teachers are from- be sure to check it out, you might learn something new about your little one’s teachers!
