From Here to There: Exploring Transportation and Motion at Tierra Encantada
Our little learners are embarking on a new journey From Here to There with our monthly curriculum theme! Going to school… going to the store… or going to a friend’s house? We all have to get from here to there! In this unit, we will explore different modes of transportation to get from one place to another while exploring our school community. Read on to learn more about all of the adventures our children are up to.
Infants: Rolling, Pushing, and Discovering
Even the youngest children at Tierra Encantada will get involved with our From Here to There theme! At this young age, infants explore how objects move through rolling, pushing, and pulling. Each movement is a new discovery and these activities help babies develop motor skills and better understand how their actions affect the world around them.
Toddlers: Wheels, Water, and Whimsical Fun
Toddlers will bring the theme to life as they explore different types of vehicles, from cars to trains, planes, and more. We will learn about the colors and meanings of stoplights, discover pushing and pulling objects, and experiment with water (testing if objects sink or float)! Some extra special activities will include building cars and boats.
Preschool: Force, Motion, and Biking Adventures
In our preschool classrooms, children will explore force and motion. In this unit, we’ll practice counting, dive into the importance of traffic signs, and make our own boats to test buoyancy! An important mode of transportation we’ll focus on will be bikes, and the importance of bike safety, combining learning and fun.
Pre-K: Maps, Boats, and World Travel
Our Pre-K students will take From Here to There even further, with exciting activities that blend education, imagination, and fun. Children will also play “Stop and Think” games to practice making thoughtful choices. Each student will make their own ‘passport”, packing suitcases and exploring maps and globes to learn about the many places they may travel to – by land, air, and sea!
Keep the Adventure Going at Home
Want to keep the fun going outside the classroom? There are so many fun activities to reinforce From Here to There at home. Consider activities like rolling balls, pushing toy cars, or pulling toys as you talk about what makes them move. While out and about, point out traffic lights and road signs.
