Community Events in August & September
In line with our August curriculum theme, we’re highlighting our Tierra Encantada communities- and the family-friendly events happening in them!
Minnesota- Twin Cities and Greater Area
- Minneapolis parks has been hosting Music & Movies in the park all summer, and there’s still time to catch a show or two! Select your preferred location and view the schedule here.
- Centennial Lakes Park has music especially for little ones! Performances are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, throughout the entire month of August.
- Is your little one enamored with nature? Check out Anoka County Parks Campfire Talks and other events- there’s a Campfire Talk centered on Wild Cats coming up that’s sure to be a hit!
- Como Zoo Conservatory hosts Little Explorers Thursdays, complete with story time, a zookeeper talk and a show! Some upcoming explorer themes are Happy Hoovers, Teddy Bear Picnic and Rockin’ Reptiles!
- For little ones that need something more sensory friendly, Como Zoo offers Sensory Friendly Mornings. Pre-registration is required.
- Open Eye Theater has lots of dates left in their open-to-the-public Driveway Tour for their puppet show, Molly and the Magic Boot!
Chicago
- Movies in the park are a summer staple all over! You can find kids movies in the park across the city, but here are a couple of options to get you started!
- Get athletic at the Bike for the Kids event! The adult rides are in the morning, and the kids ride is at 12:30pm!
- Kids under 12 get in free at this music in the park event!
Alexandria
- The last Read, See, Do of the season is Monday, August 14th! This is a fun STEAM activity about nature for ages 4 and up.
- The National Children’s Museum has two weekly events that are perfect for young kids:
- The events list at local libraries and surrounding areas is a long one- but worth checking out, as they have activities for kids big and small! Events – Alexandria Library
Addison/Dallas/Fort Worth
- Once a month through the end of the year (the next one is August 19th!), the Dallas Children’s Theater is hosting fun drama classes!
- Nasher Sculpture Center hosts Free First Saturdays monthly, where admission is free and there are guided children’s activities!
- The Dallas Museum of Art has events catered to even the littlest TE attendees! Art Babies: Once Upon a Time is an event for kids up to two years old, and is an hour full of music and stories!
- Is your family a bunch of foodies? Fort Worth is hosting a burger week in mid-August, and the kickoff party is fun for the whole family.
