Animals and Their Homes- Reinforcing the Theme at Home

Copy of 2019 Oct Tierra Encantada Jeannine Marie Photography 167 scaled 1 scaled

Polar bears in the arctic, birds in their nest, cows in the barn! There are so many different types of animals, and so many different habitats for them to live in! This month, our classrooms will be looking at all types of animals: what they eat, where they live, how they behave.

Infants will move and make noise like animals! Animal movement and sound games will be sprinkled throughout their day. Toddlers will sort stuffed animals and colored animal toys, as well as create some awesome animal art that works their fine motor skills! Preschoolers and PreK will learn about habitats and then build them with popsicle sticks, paint, cotton balls and more!

Reinforcing the Theme at Home

This is a curriculum theme that can easily be fun for the whole family. Visit a local zoo, family-run farm, aquarium or pet store, and maybe even volunteer for a shift or two! Is there a cat cafe or animal-filled bookstore near you? All of these are fun weekend options that center around learning about animals!

Want to stay in your neighborhood? Try going on a nature walk! Look up in the trees to search for birds nests or squirrels collecting nuts. Look down on the ground for animal tracks. If it is snowy and cold, try figuring out which animals are hibernating for the season.

Too cold for an animal-spotting walk? Stay inside and have an animal-themed day. Does your little one have a favorite animal? Spend a Saturday learning all you can about it! Can humans eat what that animal eats? Can we live where they live? Are there any family-friendly movies about that animal available to watch?

Animals and Their Homes is an adorable and educational curriculum theme! It teaches kids about animals from all over, expanding their understanding of the world and encouraging their curiosity.
