The holidays are always a fun way to introduce new games at home, and St. Patrick’s Day is no exception. It’s time to dress up in green from head to toe, make corned beef and cabbage, and enjoy a green-colored beverage (we know what you’re thinking, and it’s not green beer!)

Here are a few St. Patrick’s Day activities for preschoolers that you can enjoy from the comfort of your home.

5 At-Home St. Patrick’s Day Activities for Your Preschooler

1. Green smoothie

A great way to kick off St. Patrick’s Day is by making a green smoothie, like this one, for breakfast! Grab the ingredients the next time you’re at the grocery store, and you’re all set.

Ask your preschooler to help you make the smoothie so it’s a fun experience for the whole family.

2. Gold coin hunt

Who doesn’t love an egg hunt around Easter? This is a similar activity and just as enjoyable for your kiddos!

Purchase fake gold coins at your local craft or party store, and hide them around your house for your kids to find.

To make it even more exciting, you could leave them a handwritten note from a pesky leprechaun that details the rules of the game. Put the note somewhere in plain sight for them to find shortly after they wake up. It’ll be a surprise game that they can’t wait to start.

3. Rainbow art squish bag

For this sensory activity, you’ll need paint in all the colors of the rainbow (or however many you’d like), a piece of construction paper, and a gallon-sized plastic storage baggie.

You can start this activity in two different ways. First, you can personally squeeze the paint colors into the shape of a rainbow on the piece of paper, or you can help your preschooler do this. Be sure not to ‘paint’ the colors onto the paper. You want the paint to lay on thick before you put it into the bag.

Next, carefully place the paper with the rainbow on it into the plastic storage baggie, then completely seal it.

Now it’s your preschooler’s turn! Let them use their hands to spread the paint inside the bag. This is a great sensory experience without the mess.

4. Rainbow slime

Kids love to play with slime, and St. Patrick’s Day creates the perfect opportunity.

We have the perfect slime recipe to make at home, and it’s super easy! You can make the slime with your preschooler or prepare it ahead of time.

Once you get all the colors made, encourage your child to construct the slime into the shape of a rainbow.

5. Playdough and cookie cutters

All you’ll need for this activity is playdough and St. Patrick’s-themed cookie cutters (i.e. rainbow, leprechaun, four-leaf clover, pot of gold, etc.) And if you don’t have playdough on hand, you can make your own!

Once you get out the materials, encourage your child to roll out the dough with their hands and use the cookie cutters to cut out the fun shapes. This is another great hands-on, sensory activity that your kids are sure to enjoy.

The holidays seem to come and go quickly, but these St. Patrick’s Day activities for preschoolers are sure to add to the festivities. If you’re looking for other fun activities to do with your child, check out our blog.
