Colors and Shapes are all Around Us!- Reinforcing the Theme at Home
The October theme in our classrooms is “Colors and Shapes are all Around Us”. Plants, animals, people and objects all have a unique color and shape to them, and this month at Tierra Encantada we’re highlighting those traits and talking about how they make the world a more beautiful place.
Bringing the Theme Home
This is a theme that can come up in everyday conversation, and it is not difficult to reinforce at home. You can have a family conversation about everyone’s favorite flowers, foods and activities, and identify the colors and shapes in each one. You can emphasize to your child that all colors and shapes are unique and beautiful, and that the more variety, the better and brighter the world is. You can even get specific with colors and shapes and ask which colors show up the most in fall or winter or which shapes show up in the food we eat.
Scavenger Hunt: Colors and Shapes are All Around Us
In honor of the theme, we’ve created a fun scavenger hunt for all age groups. This is something your kids can do anywhere- in your greater neighborhood or community, while visiting family and friends or even in your own backyard or house. Print the list below and start searching- we’ve added some examples of items to help you get going.
If you complete this scavenger and want to show off your child’s accomplishment, post a photo and tag Tierra Encantada (@tierraencantada on Instagram, Tierra Encantada on Facebook) and we’ll repost your smiling faces!
