Preparing for Kindergarten at Tierra Encantada

By the time a little one graduates Pre-K at Tierra Encantada, they are fully ready for kindergarten and all the learning and new experiences elementary school will bring. Over the course of their time at TE, a child has met new amigos, learned a new language and been set up for success in their future endeavors.

We teach through Spanish Immersion- meaning all of our instruction is in Spanish, all day. Our teachers have seen firsthand how immersion learning works, and how and when kids really learn and retain the Spanish language. You can hear from some of our teachers about their experience here!

In our classrooms, we cover all the basic educational skills that little ones will hone in kindergarten- word recognition and reading, writing our names, counting, addition and subtraction, working with scissors and cutting, science skills through STEM crafts. We start these skills early, and take them step by step. Toddlers will master holding a marker, Preschoolers practice their letters, and by Pre-K, they write their own names at the top of their coloring sheet!

Our curriculum also goes beyond basic school skills. We learn about the world around us- where are we now and where have we been? Where are our teachers from? We work on social skills and respectful interactions with all kinds of people, no matter where they come from or how they look (we believe diversity makes us better!). We encourage creativity and expression- whether it’s with markers, paint or even paper mache, we’re always making art, or expressing ourselves through dressing up in costumes and playing pretend.

Pre-K graduation season is emotional for our TE community- it’s hard to say goodbye to the little ones we’ve seen in our centers for years! It means the world though, getting to see them receive their Tierra Encantada diploma, we know we’ve prepared them for what comes next, in kindergarten and beyond!
